Subway M15 Along Xiang Jiang Bei

07/14/2009

Over the past few weeks, serious concerns have been expressed by residents to the EMO and RA about the felled trees and construction works about to begin on Xiang Jiang Bei Road. After extensive and sometimes difficult enquiries at local government bureau, we are now in a better position to make a general announcement on the portion of this subway along Xiang Jiang Bei Road for the information of all residents.

We gather that Subway M15 starts from Xi Yuan (near Summer Palace) in the west and ends at He Dong in Shun Yi to the east.  Construction has already started and the entire subway line is expected to be fully operational by 2013. The section between Wang Jing through Xiang Jiang Bei Road to Shun Yi is however expected to open by the second half of 2010. Some related details regarding the portion of this section affecting Beijing Riviera available so far are summarized below.  Residents will be updated on this subject as we receive more information.

  1. There will be 2 stations:  one located underground to the northwest near Cathay View (CV) and another above ground at the junction of Sun He Road (SH) and Jing Shun Road.
  2. The design shows the subway gradually rising underground at CV to aboveground at SH.  Construction involves both underground excavation and aboveground works on Xiang Jiang Bei Road, the dividing line being set at 50m east of the main entrance of Quan Fa.  West of the dividing line will be underground excavation whereas east of it aboveground works. The pavement, now void of trees, will be temporarily resurfaced for vehicular traffic. Reinstatement will be carried out on completion of construction anticipated in mid-2010.
  3. The above ground portion of the subway will be located on the northern part of Xiang Jiang Bei Road.

Please be assured that we are as concerned as you all about the nuisance from this construction and we will do whatever plausible to lessen the inconvenience.  For now, we have planted new pine trees along the northern boundary fence to shield off some noise and dust.  We will also increase security patrol in the area during the entire constr5uction period.

All the above could change with out prior notice.
